Real Madrid secured a spot in the Champions League semifinals after defeating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, with Rodrygo scoring both goals in the second half. This victory sealed a final aggregate score of 4-0 in favor of the defending champions. Chelsea had a strong start, but Madrid took control of the game before half-time. Marc Cucurella had a chance to score just before the break, but Thibaut Courtois blocked his close-range strike. After Rodrygo scored before the hour mark, any hope of a comeback for Chelsea was dashed. The Brazilian then sealed the victory with his second goal, finishing off a sweeping counter-attack.

Madrid's goalkeeper, Courtois, stated that getting to the semifinals is not an easy feat, but once a team gets there, the target is to go through and win. This sentiment was echoed by Rodrygo, who expressed his happiness with his performance and stated that winning the Champions League is always the goal for Real Madrid.


Chelsea, on the other hand, have lost all four games since Frank Lampard returned as interim manager, and their season will end trophy-less despite a £500 million ($621 million) outlay on new players. Real Madrid will likely face Manchester City in the semifinals, with Pep Guardiola's team leading Bayern Munich 3-0 in their quarterfinal with one leg to play. However, Madrid did receive some bad news when Eder Militao picked up a yellow card that will keep him out of the first leg of the semifinals due to accumulation. Despite this setback, Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance and credited their solid defense for the victory.
